Pretty much if you read it on a Waffle House menu, we probably named a band from one of the entrees! Side of Grits is a fun band that tags their music “ Bluegrass with a touch of Hominy.” They play traditional contemporary and Gospel Bluegrass music. What started out as a once a week jam band three years ago has turned into a tight musical group. The common denominator of course is they all cherish that Bluegrass sound! From left to right, Ron Maldin, singer and balladeer of the band as well as our lead guitar, next to Ron is “Dad” Mr. Charlie Ray Senior, a well-known bluegrasser in Phoenix and hails from Spring Valley Arizona. Charlie sings and plays rhythm guitar. Next to dad is Charlie Ray Jr.(Dad’s son) the lead singer and rhythm Guitar . Rick Rhodes on Banjo. Rick provides high harmony and also lead sings. Next to Rick you have Mike Seymour kickin’ it on Mando with a great back beat! In the front holding her Dog House Bass is Leslie Rhodes, current President of Arizona Bluegrass Association in Phoenix. Not pictured is one of the best Fiddle players ever to move to the state of AZ., Mr. Dave Brinkman – off playing in a fiddle competition while we carried on with the Christmas music.
